Dad sent this interesting link. A 'secular' woman is really going at it - challenging how the Muslim faith operates. The snippet challenges both my preconceived notions regarding uniformity of thought amongst the Muslims but also the idea that if you challenge the faith you are killed. This woman must have some courage.
Listening to XM's Fine Tuning station today (a guilty pleasure™) and I heard my first piece of ethnic music on the service. Because of my background - I love the discordant melodies. Sadly, I can't understand a single word of it - but I love it nevertheless. I've purchased the CD box set off of Amazon for Dad.
A nice instrumental with familiar themes from some of their more popular songs.
During a work related Christmas party one of the participants talked at length about underwater hockey. He was earnest about it and after some effort I finally accepted that there was such a thing. But I have found since then that if I try and repeat that conversation to others I am not taken seriously. They think I'm spinning a yarn and because I haven't seen it myself I have a hard time contesting the notion that I've been duped.
After a very quick Google search that there is such a thing. There is no end to the different ways we can find to compete.
From the Mighty Rearranger album - an album I had not heard of. A nice accoustical arrangement. From the MP3 web site:
The beautiful balladry of "All the King's Horses" offers solid proof of Plant's ability to reference the English folk tradition with elegance and taste, and his continued acumen for fine lyric writing. The acoustic guitars purposely kiss the same space that Page did on "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "Goin' to California," but are balanced by Adams' pastoral electric country fills.
Update: We've since purchased the album. This is the best song on the album (but it's still a good album).
My final post from today's listening is the California Guitar Trio. They are mostly accoustic guitarists. They studied with King Criimson's Robert Fripp. If you like a strong accoustic guitar sound you will love them. They have a very rich sound.
Another good group - Frank Marino and the Mahogany Rush.
